Autonomics of Abdomen Thorax Correlations Flashcards
What do visceral plexuses contain - celiac plxus, cardiopulm plexus etc.?
sympathetic postganglionic fibers
parasympathetic preganglionic fibers
visceral afferent fibers
how do sympathetics get to body wall above T1 and below L2 ?
they use the elevator - GRC
where are WRC and lateral horns only found?
T1 to L2
where do GRCs lead to?
only to spinal nerves - the nerves of body wall and limbs
how do all preganglionic sympaethics enter the chain?
WRC - from the chain they can go EVERYWHERE
what targets do sympathetics innervate in the body wall and limbs?
sweat glands
vascular smooth muscle
arrector pilli muscles
what is antoher name for sympaethic chain ganglia?
paravertebral
what is another name for pre aortic ganglia?
prevertebral
what types of fibers does the cardiopulmonary plexus contain?
postganglionic sympathetics
preganglionic parasympaethics (vagus)
visceral afferents
what does pain fibers (visceral afferents) travel with?
sympaethics
what does physiological response (visceral afferent) travel with?
parasympathetic
what are the pulmonary sympathetic targets?
artieral smooth muscle, airway smooth muscle (clinicall most importance)
airway mucus glands
what do the afferents accompanying Parasympathetic nerves to the airways serve?
- irritation/”pain” from airway epithelium
2. airway stretch
when is mucous secretion increased and why?
during parasympathetic control - rest digest - cleaning up airways “housecleaning” preparing for the next fight/flight
what is given to asthma patients?
SNS stimulation - beta agonists - increased airway diameter = decreased resistance to flow of air
