What is implicit association test-

A

Developed by greenwald, McGhee & schwartz 1989.

To measure strengths if the method used for measuring strengths of the associations concept. It measured implicit bias, and showed they are bias in judgement of behaviours that results from the subtle cognitive processes.

Related to automatic activation which is prime example of how psychological methods are used to access the attitudes that people have.

It measures the individuals unconscious association with a target stimuli.

According to Poeges, we have complex vagal systems in our brains and bodies which work to access safety vs danger.

Unconscious prejudices-
IAT was developed in Harvard.
In order to access our unconscious mind, or implicit bias.
In studies it showed that white or Asians associated white faces with positivity but black with negativity. People also prefer young to old and thin to fat.

This also shows that our culture plays a huge role in our prejudices, we are not born preferring black or whites.

Natures vs nurture relates to a debate in psychology of which aspects of behaviour are a product of inherited or acquired characteristics.
