Automatic Flight Flashcards
What are the primary components of the AFCS?
1 - Flight Guidance Control Panel
2 - Flight Guidance Modules
1 - Yaw Damper Actuator unit
2 - Autopilot Actuator Units
What do the Flight Guidance Modules provide?
FGMs Provide:
- Flight Director Commands
- Commands to the Autopilot and Yaw Damper Actuators
- Commands to the pitch system
What happens if one FGM fails?
If either FGM fails the Autopilot and Yaw Damper will not be available but the Flight Director will be.
What happens when STBY mode button is pushed?
- Clears all active and armed lateral and vertical FD modes and removes FD command bars if the AP is not engaged.
- Clears all active and armed lateral and vertical FD modes and FD command bars remain if the AP is engaged. The auto pilot reverts to basic modes.
- Clears FD abnormal messages.
- No effect on AP/YD engagement
What happens when the Go Around Buttons are pushed?
- the AP disengages
- the FD Go Around vertical mode is engaged - 10 degrees of pitch
- the FD Wings Level lateral mode is engaged
- all armed FD modes are disarmed
- GA and WING LVL are displayed
When is Auto Pilot engagement inhibited?
20 degrees of pitch or 45 degrees of roll
How can the Auto Pilot be disengaged?
Go Around Buttons
Operating the Pitch Trim
AP Button
AP Disconnect buttons
How many speeds does the pitch trim system have and when do they change?
Two Speeds, High and Low.
High speed below 180kcas
Low speed above 180kcas
Describe the Flap Auto Pitch Trim
The Flap Auto Pitch Trim system is active when:
- Flaps are moving between 15 and 35
- Speed is less than 200 kias
- Autopilot is disengaged
Provides 2 degrees of elevator trim.
Manual trim inputs will de-activate the system.
Describe the limitations of the Yaw Damper
Mechanically limited to 4.5 degrees of rudder displacement.
Inhibited when 45 degrees of roll is exceeded.
How do the FGMs interact?
FGM 1 is the master and FGM 2 is the slave. FGM 1 provides the actual commands to the Autopilot and Yaw Damp actuators. FGM 2 monitors the commands and performance.
What is different in Dual FD mode?
Usually both PFDs display FGM1 FD data and FGM2 just monitors. In Dual FD mode PFD1 displays FGM1 FD data and PFD2 displays FGM2.
