safety considerations using AED
6 things
A
- electrical shock to responders
- remove medication patches (can explode)
- avoid use in highly flammable atmosphere
- DON’T place pad over jewellery (it will conduct + burn casualty). But removal is not necessary
- avoid pads over implanted devices (often see or feel under skin, with scar above)
- inappropriate shock (AED can misread need for shock if casualty is fitting, or if vehicle / machinery vibrations are present)
