Q

safety considerations using AED

6 things

A
  • electrical shock to responders
  • remove medication patches (can explode)
  • avoid use in highly flammable atmosphere
  • DON’T place pad over jewellery (it will conduct + burn casualty). But removal is not necessary
  • avoid pads over implanted devices (often see or feel under skin, with scar above)
  • inappropriate shock (AED can misread need for shock if casualty is fitting, or if vehicle / machinery vibrations are present)
