Autoflight Flashcards
Autoflight
How many autopilots are installed on the 787
3
Autoflight
What does LAND2 indicate ?
Fail passive mode.
Automatic landing is possible.
A single fault cannot cause a significant deviation from the flight path.
Autoflight
How can G/S and LOC modes be deactivated below 1500 ft ?
- By selecting TOGA (TOGA switch) or,
- AP and both F/Ds OFF.
Autoflight
Which mode indicates the autothrottle servos are inhibited ?
HOLD (displayed on the FMA)
Autoflight
What does a line through a ROLL or PITCH mode indicate ?
The mode is degraded.
Autoflight
After takeoff, with LNAV armed, when will LNAV become active ?
50 ft
Autoflight
During a go around, a SINGLE push of either TO/GA switch will command what level of thrust ?
Autothrottle activates in THR mode to establish a minimum climb rate of 2000 ft/min.
Autoflight
During a go around, a SECOND push of either TO/GA switch will command what level of thrust ?
Autothrottle activates in THR REF mode at full go around thrust.
Autoflight
What does the message “DRAG REQUIRED” indicate in VNAV ?
The current Airspeed is > 10 kts from the target speed.
Autoflight
When VNAV is armed for take-off, when does it activate ?
At 400 feet AGL
Autoflight
When a higher or lower MCP altitude is set, what happens when FLCH is pushed ?
A/T advances or retards thrust levers to provide 500 FPM vertical speed for each 1000 FT altitude change.
AFDS attempt to reach the MCP selected altitude within 2 MINUTES if able with available thrust. Otherwise, it uses IDLE or CLB thrust to reach the MCP selected altitude.
Autoflight
When is TO/GA armed for Go-around ?
- When flaps are not UP or,
- When GS/GP is captured.
Autoflight
What does LAND3 indicate ?
Fail Operational mode.
Automatic landing is possible.
Auto pilot system level of redundancy is such that a single fault cannot prevent the autopilot system from making an automatic landing.
Can the 3 A/Ps be engaged with all amber/black stripes on the disengage bar exposed?
No.
Which AFDS mode switches also automatically engage the autothrottle if either or both A/T switches are at ARM?
VNAV, FLCH and TO/GA.
Is the CLB/CON switch operative on the ground?
No.
In flight, with the autopilot disengaged and both flight director switches OFF, the first flight director switch positioned to ON activates which roll & pitch modes?
HDG (TRK) HOLD, or ATT if bank angle more than 5 degrees, as the roll mode. V/S (FPA) as the pitch mode.
How can the IAS/MACH window display be changed from IAS to MACH?
Pushing the IAS/MACH reference switch.
When VNAV is active, and the FMC is controlling the target speed, what does the IAS/MACH window display?
The window is blank.
Can the IAS/MACH window display a speed when VNAV is engaged?
Yes, by pushing the IAS/MACH selector (speed intervention).
List the methods of disengaging LNAV.
• Selecting heading hold (HDG HOLD) or track hold (TRK HOLD).• Selecting heading select (HDG SEL) or track select (TRK SEL).• LOC or FAC capture.• When there is a dual or triple FMC failure (LNAV may be reselected if an FMC remains functional).
In VNAV which altitude will the AFDS capture during climb or descent; the one selected in the MCP ALT window or FMS target altitude?
Whichever is reached first.
In the Flight Level Change (FLCH) mode, what will be the autothrottle & pitch mode annunciations:a. Climb?b. Descent?
a. THR/FLCH SPD.b. THR then HOLD/FLCH SPD.
In addition to the MCP Heading window; where else is selected heading displayed?
PFD, HUD & ND.
To which AFDS modes does the BANK LIMIT selector apply?
HDG SEL or TRK SEL.
