Auto Flight Control Systems(AFCS) Flashcards
How many PFCC’s are installed on the aircraft?
3
How many PFCC’s are active at any given time.
1
What does DMC stand for?
Data Module Cabinet
How many PFCC’s are required to have the airplane operate in normal mode?
1
Auto Throttle and Flight Director are provided by which computers?
Data Module Cabinet(DMC)
What are the two basic modes?
HDG & FPA
The FD’s operate independently in which mode?
TO, GA, and APPR
What is the purpose of the Xfer switch on the glare shield?
It is used the change to the other channel of the same DMC
What is the purpose of the FD/AT button on the RSP(Reversion Switch Panel)?
Allows you to switch to the other DMC.
How is the FD represented on the PFD?
A small magenta circle with lateral bars
How is the flight path vector represented on the PFD?
A slightly larger green circle( than the FD) with lateral bars and a vertical bar.
Where should the confirmation of any mode be made?
On the FMA
What are the fields in the FMA?
- Autothrottle mode
- Lateral mode
- Autopilot, Autothrottle status and data source(the green arrow).
- Vertical mode
- Alternate Source selection(ADSP, IRS, etc)
How many different ways to deactivate Autothrottles?
3 ways
- A/T DISC button on either thrust lever
- AT push button on the FCP
- Moving the thrust levers
When the Autothrottle disconnects, what indication do you get?
- AT flashes amber in the middle section of the FMA
2. “AUTOTHROTTLE” continuously sounds
What is the minimum altitude for engagement of the AP?
400’ AGL
What is the minimum altitude for use of the AP?
80’ AGL
What are the different lateral modes on the aircraft?
- HDG
- NAV (FMS1(2), LOC1(2), VOR1(2))
- APPR (APPR FMS1(2), APPR VOR1(2), APPR LOC1(2))
- 1/2 bank: green arc on the ADI roll scale
What are the different vertical modes we have on the aircraft.
- VPA
- VS
- ALTS
- ALT
- ALTS
- FLC
What does the VNAV mode allow you to do?
It allows the FD to follow FMS managed vertical navigation profiles.
AFCS automatically enables 1/2 bank when climbing through what altitude?
31,500
When FPA is selected, what range of selection is available to you
+/-9.9 path & +/-15 pitch
The AP and AUTOLAND are software applications contained in which computers
PFCC’s
What does ASA stand for?
Approach Status Annunciator
What are the different multi-axis modes on the aircraft?
- ILS APPROACH: APPR (APPR LDC/GS)
- VOR APPROACH: APPR(APPR VOR/ vertical modes)
- FMS APPROACH: APPR(APPR FMS/ VGP)
- TAKEOFF: TO/TO
- GO-AROUND: GA/GA
How can AP be disengaged manually?
- Pressing the AP/PTY switch in the side stick.
- Pressing the AP push button on the FCP
- Operating the pitchtrim switch on the side stick
- Moving the sidestick
- Moving the tiller or rudder pedals during autoland ground roll
6 Pressing the TOGA pushbutton on the FOR MORE THAN TWO SECONDS
What are the four operating modes on the AT?
HOLD, SPD, THRUST, and RETARD
What happens when the AT mode changes on the FMA?
It flashes green for five seconds then becomes steady.
The AT operates in takeoff HOLD mode to maintain takeoff thrust in which condition?
From 60 kts to 400 ft RA
At what altitude does the AT RETARD mode activate?
Activates when the aircraft reaches approximately 30 ft RA
BPCU stand for?
Bus power control units
What do the BPCUs do?
Route AC power from the engine and APU VFGs and EXT PWR, to appropriate AC buses, TRUs, And DC buses via contactors
What does EMPC stand for?
Emergency Power Control Unit
What does the EMPC do?
Manages emergency power distribution to AC ESS BUS and DC ESS BUS within EPC 3. EMPC also executes the RAT auto-deploy logic, and manages power distribution from the RAT GEN.
What does SSPC stand for and what does it do?
Solid State Power Controller: provides the function of an electric circuit breaker(ECB), and a switch, and are considered virtual devices.
