ADS-B Flashcards
What is ADS-B!!
ADS-B continuously BROADCAST aircraft position data to atc replacing radar as the primary surveillance method for controlling aircraft in ADS-B coverage areas
ADS-B consist of two services:
ADS-B Out: GNSS and velocity data
ADS-B In: Traffic and graphical weather information
The ADS-B Out system is comprised of three categories:
- Aircraft avionics
- Ground Stations
- Controller displays
For ADS-B operations what is required to be available at all times?
- Direct Controller Pilot Communications(voice communications)
- CPDLC
*Both must be available at all times.
Certain jurisdictions may require that ________________ be stated on the flight plan to enable preferred routing reduced separation
ADS-B Capability
What computers transmit the necessary data to transponders for ADS-B operations?
FMS, GNSS, and ADC(Air Data Computers)
What is the most surefire way to inhibit ADS-B out with transponder?
Select STBY mode.
True or False:
Selecting modes A or C will also inhibit ADS-B Out?
False
ADS-B operations are automatic once Flight ID has been CORRECTLY entered into the transponder panel. What needs to happen first before this to work correctly,
Aircraft has to be registered with an Aviation Authority as ADS-B Out eligible.
What does the A220 use to transmit ADS-B
Mode S transponder that transmits @1090 MHz
In addition to data for existing Modes A, C, & S, the parameters transmitted on ADS-B are presented in the slide below
In European airspace ADS-B is required for what kind of aircraft?
- Weighing more than 12,500lbs
2. Operates above 250kts
What are the benefits of using ADS-B?
- Reduced fuel cost
- Reduced flight time
- Direct routes can be used in no radar coverage.
