NYC is most at risk of being affected by Hurricane between?
August and October
Division, Battalion and UNITS should?
- compile a list of streets and roads that could be subject to flooding, noting those that could become impassable
- initiate surveys to determine locations of institutional occupancies (hospitals, nursing homes, correctional facilities) and occupancies with pre incident guidelines that may require special operating procedures during storm emergencies…contact list for these institutions should be updated every MAY 1ST
Units shall maintain a list of HYDRANTS in their administrative district that are prone to being submerged during a storm…
Borough Storm maps shall be requisitioned from the Geographical Information Systems Unit(GIS)
-these should be prominently displayed in quarters–list problems specific to their response area/Battalion on these maps and update as conditions change
BUNKER GEAR should NOT be worn in FLOODED AREAS…..PFD should be used.
Cold WAter suits should be utilized
Phase A?
Activation Phase
-instituted when weather forecasters predict a severe storm approaching NYC,
Phase B?
Implementation Phase
-instituted when actual emergency conditions have been reached or are imminent, and special activities are determined necessary
Preliminary activities include?
72 hours - being storm preparation-72 hour checklist
48 hours- completion of 72 hour checklist
24 hours- completion of 48 hours checklist
Apparatus and Vehicle fuel tanks shall be maintained ?
FULL
DEWATERING PUMPS PLACED ON APPARATUS___HOURS prior to the predicted storms LAND FALL.

ALL UNITS shall refer to hydrant list that are prone to becoming SUBMERGED…
special hydrant connections and tactics shall be reviewed and readied for IMMEDIATE USE….drafting must be considered.
Quarters:
- begin securing WINDOWS/ SALVAGE PLASTIC
- host companies will make arrangements for possibility of flooding companies joining them
- companies that may be flooded- initiate movement of items from BASEMENTS/FIRST FLOORS to interior rooms/upper floors
- notify members of reception areas so vehicles can remain out of flood areas…remind members to prepare homes
- determine the need to DRAIN FUEL TANKS IN QUARTERS expected to be FLOODED
- MOVE MSU/CFRD DEPOTS if threatened by flooding
Additional Units (units located at dispersal sites…site OTHER THAN FIREHOUSE):
- maintain communications with dispatcher
- visited at least once during each tour by Chief Officer…not practicable–telephone
- Officers keep records while away from quarters..upon return to quarters, complete reports
Evacuation of firehouse should be reported ?
IMMEDIATELY up the chain of command AND to dispatchers
-telephone notification to SURROUNDING COMPANIES
COMPANY OFFICERS of Units shall ensure SURVEYS are made…
When street conditions become too hazardous for vehicle survey, BC shall be notified
