A
- give advice or perform duties in legal matters of government which are reffered to him by president.
- functions given to him by Constitution or law.
- To appear on behalf of government in SC or HC
- To represent government in any reference made by president u/a 143(consulting with SC)

What are Rights of AG?
A
- can be an audience in all courts in territory of India.
- Can take part & speak in proceedings of both houses (including joint session) and also any committee of parliament of which he is a member, WITHOUT RIGHT TO VOTE.
- Same immunities as MP

What are Limitations on AG?
A
- shouldnt advice or brief against government, or in cases in which he is called upon to appear for government
- shouldnt defend accused or accept appointment in any company or corporation without government permission
- shouldnt advise ministry, department of government, statutory organization, PSU unless proposal is received through Ministry of Law and justice, Department of legal affairs.
- isnt considered government servant, isn’t debarred from private legal practice
