A
- A value aimed at an attitude object.

What is an attitude?
A
- An attitude is an opinion.
- It is a belief or value towards something.
- That ‘something’ is referred to as an ‘attitude object’.

Attitude formation
A
- Attitudes can be positive or negative and are developed through experiences rather than being innate.
- The are often developed at an early age.

How can attitudes be formed?

- Past experiences
- Socialisation
- Social learning (nurture)
- Media

A
e.g. Winning matches is an enjoyable experience and can lead to the individual developing a positive attitude.
- This then leads to them developing a high perception of their own ability, which increases confidence.

A
- If they have a bad experience, for example, losing or being injured, this may lead to a negative attitude- poor perception= low self confidence. This may develop learned helplessness (someone is unable to find resolutions to difficult situations).

A
- Describes how an individual wishes to fit in with the cultural norms surrounding them.
- If the norm of your group is to participate regularly in and have a positive attitude towards physical activity, then you will conform in order to fit in.
- However, if it is the norm to not participate and have a negative attitude, you will adopt these.

- Imitating the attitudes of significant others.
- If they have a positive attitude towards a particular sporting activity
