Attitude
Ideas charged with emotion that produces specific behaviour to a specific situation
Socialisation
Process where cultural values are learnt by associating with others
Primary - family, role models
Secondary - school, the media
The Triadic model
1 - cognitive - your beliefs thoughts e.g belief in exercise benefits
2 - affective - your feelings or emotional responses e.g. enjoying training
3 - behavioural - your actions and intended behaviour e.g. training three times a week
Cognitive dissonance
A challenge to existing beliefs causing disharmony in an individual and a motivation to change attitudes
Persuasive communication
When you try to talk someone around to your idea.
You can be talked around but it is hard to change core beliefs
How can the disharmony be settled in cognitive dissonants
1) Give new information to promote a person to question their current behaviour and motivate change
2) making the activity fun of varying practice can make situation more fun than expecting us changing opinions
3) using rewards to promote positive behaviour prizes for attention training
4) Bring in specialist role model from another area to promote the topic
How can negative attitudes be changed to positive ones
Persuasion from a perceived expert
- Making it fun when training
- allowing early success
- Using positive reinforcement and rewards
- Cognitive dissidents
