What is attachment?
An emotional bond between two people, it’s a two way process and develops over time
What is reciprocity?
When each person responds to the other and elicit a response (turn taking)
Who describes reciprocity as a dance?
Brazelton et al- because each one responds to the others movements
What is interactional synchrony?
Perform the same actions at the same time: micro level social behaviour (Feldman 2007) mirror actions
What did Isabella et al do?
Observed 30 mothers and infants (as young as 2 weeks old)
An adult displayed 1/3 facial expressions or distinct gestures. Childs response was filmed and watched by an independent observer. Found babies imitated expression showed by caregiver.
What did Isabella et al find?
Higher levels of synchrony were associated with better quality attachments
