Temperament
an aspect of personality concerned with emotional dispositions and reactions and their speed and intensity
Reactivity
Infant’s excitability and responsiveness
Regulation
what the infant does to control its reactivity
What are the temperament traits?
1-Extraversion (sociability)
2-Neuroticism (experience fear or anger)
3-Conscientiousness (attempts to regulate stimulations)
Warmth
connected to child’s social and emotional needs
Positive and negative control
connected to the child’s need for autonomy and self-regulation
Goodness of match
Match and mismatch between parent and child.
Advantage:
growth by match-mismatch pair
Disadvantage:
problematic due to differential sensitivity
2 central Hypothesis for attachment?
1- Individual differences in the quality of caregiver-infant relationship is a product of caregiver’s history with her caregiver
2-Individual differences come from the attachment style of the relationship.
Providing safe heaven
a person whom the infant can return for comfort

for an infant who seeks closeness and resists separation

a person whose presence serves as security.
