ATP Flashcards
ATP stands for
adenosine tri phosphate
what is atp
nucleotide derivative consisting of one molecule of adenine, one molecule of ribose sugar and three inorganic phosphate groups.
how is atp made
atp is made during respiration from adp by adding an inorganic phosphate via condensation reaction using an enzyme called ATP synthase.
how is atp hydrolysed
atp hydrolysed into adp and pi by an enzyme called atp hydrolase.
reaction for atp
adp + pi —– atp + water
energy in atp
atp can transfer energy to differernt compounds.
the inorganic phosphate
the inorganic phosphate in atp phosphorylates other compounds to make them more reactive.
properties of atp ( questions could mostly link to glucose in the exams)
- atp releases energy in small manageable amounts so no energy is wasted whereas glucose releases large amt of energy.
