Asymmetric Flashcards
What is the Asymmetric Committal Height (ACM)? (Minimum height for a go-around due to initial height loss)
200 ft AGL. Once that height is passed, the aircraft is committed to land.
Maximum airspeed for restarting the engine?
100 kts
The AFM states that the engine must be restarted within __ minutes.
10 minutes
When an engine fails, towards which direction with the aircraft yaw?
Towards the failed engine.
What is the secondary effect of the yaw induced by the failed engine?
Roll, which can lead to the aircraft entering a steep descending turn.
Towards which direction will the slip ball move when an engine fails?
Towards the live engine, same direction that we will be applying rudder.
The use of 50% of power will lead to a loss of __% of the climb performance.
80%
In the DA42, which engine is the critical one?
Left engine
Vmca
71 knots clean, 68 knots with APP flaps.
What are the limitations for practicing engine restart?
- Height >3000 ft AGL or 1000 ft above BKN or greater amount of clouds, whichever is higher.
- EFATO NOT below 85 kts.
Asymmetric Committal Checks
Gear Down
Stable Approach
Cleared to land
Clear Runway
Engine Failure during Approach
Control (maintain descending flight path)
Power on both engines, flaps up as required.
Identify failed engine, master off to feather it and stop there.
Don’t GA if not feathered or below ACA.
Asymmetric Go-Around
You should be at 90 kts when approaching ACA,
So full power + right rudder,
Maintain attitude, gear up flap up,
Pitch up, climb on RW HDG at 85 kts. Trim.
