Assessment Questions Flashcards
What is a “commercially produced assessment”?
This is an assessment that is published and purchased. We use this language with transition assessments bc there are very few “formal” transition assessments out there. Assessments like IDEAS, a commercially produced assessment a lot of dots teacher use, do compare student’ level of interests to those of a pool of previously teste students, but cannot tell us how capable a student is, how interested they are relative to others their age.
Note that the labels of “commercially produced”, “curriculum based measurement,” etc. are less important than ensuring you write the name of the exact assessments used in the”assessment results” box.
Some assessments fit multiple categories; Unique has a built in transition assessment that could be considered both”commercially produced, and “curriculum based.” Likewise,Career Cruising could be considered “commercially produced” and a “web-based interest inventory.” you can select either category and be correct.
Do you have any informal assessments that would be appropriate for the nonverbal students?
Yes. First a reminder- most transition assessments are technically “informal” bc they don’t tend to be statistically-normed, but I assume you mean a non-commercially produced assessment. You could select “Curriculum Based Measurement” and discuss student transition strengths, needs and interests from observations made and documented during class. The dots website also has 2 inventories that ask a series of question to teachers and/or caregivers for students who may be nonverbal: “Personal Preference Indicator” and “Life Skills Independent Living Assessment.”
