Asexual And Sexual Reproduction And Meiosis Flashcards
Which form of division increases chance of survival?
Meiosis, allows nature to select advantagous characteristics - evolution
Which form of division is faster!
Mitosis, takes 20min
What is the use of each form of reproduction?
Mitosis=gwoth and repair
Meiosis=producing gamers (egg + pollen in case of plants)
Where does each form of reproduction occur?
Mitosis=bacteria, binary fission
Humans, everywhere except
sex organs
Meiosis=sex organs
First step of meiosis?
Starts off with Diploid cell, waxh chromosomes duplicate the genetic material
Second step of meiosis?
Each duplicated chromosome inherited from the mother pairs up with the same duplicated chromosome inherited from the father
Meiosis third step?
Each chromosome pairs is separated and the cell divides
Meiosis fourth step?
All chromosomes, either maternally or maternally inherited, line up centrally
Meiosis fifth step?
Each duplicated copy is replicated as these cells complete the second meiosis division
What is genetically special about meiosis?
All 4 cells created are genetically different
What is an example of a plant that can undergo both sexual and asexual reproduction?
Strawberry + fungi, to maximise advantages
Which form of reproduction is sexual and which one is asexual?
Sexual=meiosis
Asexual=mitosis
