Is the freedom from disease-causing microorganisms.
Asepsis
Includes all practices intended to confine a specific microorganisms to a specific area, limiting the number and growth.
Medical asepsis
Refers to the practice that keep an area or object free of all microorganisms and spores.
Surgical asepsis
Is the growth of microorganism in body tissue.
Infection
By far the most common infection-causing microorganisms.
Bacteria
Consists primarily of nucleic acid and therefore must enter the living cells in order to reproduce.

Antiseptics
Agents that destroy pathogens other than pores.
Disinfectants
Process that destroy all microorganisms including spores and viruses.
Sterilization
The chemical or physical processes used to reduce the number of potential pathogens on an object’s surface.
Disinfection
Ongoing practices that are observed in the care of the client.
Concurrent disinfection
Practices to remove the pathogens from the client’s belongings and his immediate environment after his illness is no longer communicable.
Terminal disinfection
A chemical that kills microorganisms.
