Ascending Tracts Flashcards
what are the 4 modalities the tomato sensory system is interested in?
1- discriminative touch (shape, size, texture, movement across skin, ect)
2-proprioception
3-nociception (pain sensation)
4- temperature
neural processing?
???
divergence & convergence
lateral inhibition (contrast enhancement)
- feed forward (reciprocal)
- feedback (recurrent)
- distal (pre-synaptic from higher centers)
kinaesthetic and position sense receptors:
muscle spindles- primary
skin (SA Ruffini endings)
joint (only limit detectors)
signals of central origins- sense of effort or will
what are the 2 separate senses of kinaesthetic and position sense?
share receptors but central processing of info is separate
- position (SA cutaneous receptors; tonic ms spindles)
- movement (FA receptors; phasic ms spindles, GTOs)
what is mysterious sense?
basically unaware of it since it has no defined sensation we can identify
touch and pressure:
has a definable sense
skin receptors
primary sensory afferents:
- group II fast
- group III and IV slow
separate afferent system traveling in common nerves
