Articulatory/resonance Structures W8 Flashcards
vocal tract
supra laryngeal system consists of a series of cavities, muscles, bones, teeth from the larynx to the lips
identify parts of the vocal tract
oral cavity, nasal cavity, pahryngeal cavity
identify the parts of the oral cavity
movable vs fixed parts of oral cavity
movable: tongue, mandible, velum, lips
fixed: teeth, alveolar ridge, hard palate
lips
philtrum
vermillion zone - border
cupids bow
teeth
2 sets of teeth - 20 in childhood deciduous teeth, 32 in adulthood permanent teeth
4 types of teeth, incisors - chisel, cuspids - canine, premolars - flat, molars - flat
teeth alignment
occlusion or malocclusion
tongue
muscular hydrostat
dorsum
body
root
blade
apex
lingual frenulum
lingual septum
longitudinal median sulcus
mandible
articulates with the temporal bone of the skull
TMJ - condular process of mandible and mandibular fossa of temporal bone separated by fibrocartilage
articulation is held in place by ligaments
allows vertical, anteroposterior, and lateral movement
faucial pillars
anterior - palatoglosses
posterior - palatopharyngeus
velopharyngeal port
space between the velum and the posterior pharyngeal wall
regulates communication between oral and nasal cavities
velum approximates ppw, port is closed - levator veli palatini, superior pharyngeal constrictor, musculus uvulae
velum and PPW are separated, port is open - palatopharyngeus, palatoglossus, tensor veli palatini
