each state gets 2 and others depending on how big you state is. (maine has 4)

in the electoral college there is 435 reps, 100 senators + 3 from DC = 538 members.
When running, you have your get 270 votes to win

In the running for president, you can have more people in the country vote for you but in the electoral college, have more votes towards your opponent. Therefore your opponent would win because they had more votes in the electoral college
