Arterial supply of the neck Flashcards
The neck is mainly supplied by branches of:
* Subclavian Arteries
* External Carotid Arteries
SCALENE MUSCLES:
* Attach to transverse processes of cervical vertebrae
ACTION: Neck flexion and ipsilateral lateral neck flexion
Anterior & Middle Scalene:
* Inferior attachment on 1st rib
Posterior scalene
* Inferior attachment on 2nd rib
* Deep/Anterior to levator scapulae M
Phrenic N (ventral rami of C3-C5)
* Passes along surface of anterior scalene
Roots of brachial plexus (ventral rami of C5-T1)
* Emerge b/w anterior & middle scalene
* Surrounded by axillary sheath
Subclavian A
-deep to anterior scalene (supplies upper limb)
Subclavian V
-superficial to anterior scalene
SUBCLAVIAN ARTERY: 3 DIVISIONS
1st division (medial to ant. scalene)
* Internal thoracic A
* Vertebral A (cervical transverse foramina to brain)
* Thyrocervical trunk
Thyrocervical trunk
-All branches superficial to anterior scalene
Branches of the thyrocervical trunk?
SUBCLAVIAN ARTERY: 3 DIVISIONS
2nd division (deep to anterior scalene)
* Costocervical trunk
* Dorsal scapular A (variable)
3rd division (lateral to anterior scalene)
