ARDS Flashcards
1
Q
2 types of respiratory failure
A
Hypoxic (low O2, impaired diffusion)
Hypercapneic (elevated CO2, hypoventilation)
2
Q
4 parameters of mechanical ventilation
A
FiO2 and PEEP: oxygenation
TV and RR: ventilation
3
Q
What is PEEP?/
A
Positive End Expiratory Pressure: increases alveolar recruitment by preventing collapse
4
Q
Clinical Definition of ARDS
A
- Diffuse bilateral radiographic infiltrates
2. PaO2:FiO2
5
Q
Histologic Findings of ARDS
A
inflammation w/ increased capillary permeability allows inflammatory cell infiltration, epithelial damage/death, alveolar flooding, protein edema (hyaline membranes). usually systemic organ failure occurs before respiratory issues.
