Approaches- Biological Flashcards
What are the 3 key assumptions of the biological approach?
- The genes of an individual influence his or her behaviour.
- the brain is seen as the main focus when explaining behaviour.
- The chemistry of the body impacts behaviour (The levels of neurotransmitters and hormones)
What is evolution?
There are a range of genes in any population, some will increase chance of survival, then natural selection will mean the ‘best’ will survive, THSES INDIVIDUALS CAN BREED AND PASS ON GENES.
What is a genotype and a phenotype?
A genotype is the actual set of genes an individuals are made up of.
A phenotype is an individuals observed behaviour.
What is a monozygotic? And what is the percentage of environment and genes shared?
Identical twins and 100%- shared environment, 100% shared genes.
What is a dizygotic ? And what percentage of environment and genes are shared?
Non- identical twin and 100%- shared environment, 50%- shared genes
What is a RECESSIVE gene?
A gene that only shows if you have 2 copies of the recessive gene.
What is a DOMINANT gene?
A gene that only have one copy of the gene.
What are the 6 studies that have been conducted for the biological approach?
Animal Case Studies Drug therapy Scans Twin/Family studies
