19
Q

What 2 types of models do RV refrigerators come in?

A

Abortion or Compressor models

20
Q

What do RV Refrigerator Compressor models operate on?

A

Either 12 VoltDC or 120VoltAC

21
Q

Is venting required with RV refrigerators?

A

No, they have integral venting

22
Q

Are RV compressor refrigerators sensitive to operating off level?

A

No

23
Q

RV water heaters are either conventional or…?

A

Tankless

24
Q

Conventional water heater models are either ____ or ___.

A

Pilot or DSI ( Direct, Spark, Ignition )

25
Q

What does DSI stand for?

A

DSI = Direct Spark Ignition

26
Q

What can an RV water heater have (only in motor homes) while driving?

A

A heat exchanger to heat water while driving

27
Q

What system do hydronic systems use?

A

A boiler system to heat coolant that is circulated in hoses throughout the RV to heat exchangers.

28
Q

What are heat exchangers in a hydronic heating system, and where are they located?

A

Heat exchangers are radiators with fans that blow heat into the RV and they are located in different areas or zones in the RV.
Each zones can have its own thermostat and is heated to the temperature setting in that zone.

29
Q

What is used to heat the coolant in hydronic heating systems?

A

Diesel fuel and/or electric elements are used to heat the coolant.
Hydronic heating systems can also be used to heat the water for the plumbing system

30
Q

What are the guidelines for installing and operating cooking appliances in RVs?

A

The clearance between an appliance and any adjacent combustible material shall not be less than that specified by the manufacturer. Such clearance spaces shall be framed or guarded to prevent use of the space for, or creation of space within the clearance for, storage by the owner.
Appliances shall be located in such a way that no doors, drapes, or other items can be placed or swung closer to the appliance than the clearance specified on the appliance.
Where this Requirement cannot be met in the case of privacy curtains, a warning label shall be permanently affixed in a visible location adjacent to the applicable appliance.

31
Q

What power supply do Induction cooktop’s require?

A

120 VoltAC 60 Hz power supply

32
Q

Electric cooktop’s are usually inductive style and require what type of pan?

A

Ferromagnetic pans with flat bottoms.
If your pan is not attracted by a magnet, they are not suitable.

33
Q

What do ranges include, and how are they sized?

A

They include the oven & the cooktop and are sized by depth

34
Q

Vertical clearance required above range top, mm (in)

A
35
Q

What power supply are Range hoods available in?

A

12 VoltDC or 120 VoltAC

36
Q

What must be available behind or near the top of the range?

A

12 VoltDC or 120 VoltAC power supply

37
Q

Vents that discharge to the interior have what?

A

A filter that requires periodic cleaning. As well, ranged hood vents often have a thermal fuse that opens the circuit in the event of overheating or a fire, and some 12 VoltDC hood fans have a diode that prevent the fan from rotating in reverse if the battery is incorrectly installed

38
Q

What is the minimum operating voltage of an RV furnace?

A

10.5 VoltsDC And they must have the proper electrical polarity to ensure that the fan motor is rotating in the correct direction.

39
Q

RV furnace operation

A

RV furnaces operate on a controlled electrical circuit. Electrical power is connected to the furnace control board, which sends power to the wall thermostat? When the wall thermostat calls for heat, it completes the circuit back to the control board, which, in turn starts the fan motor. When the motor reaches 80% of its operating speed, the sail switch closes, allowing power to the high limit switch. If the furnace is within the safe operating temperature, the limit switch sends power to the circuit board. The circuit board allows the blower motor to purge the combustion chamber, then send a spark and opens the propane valve. Once the flame has been lit a signal is sent to the control board and the spark is stopped. If no flame is present, the circuit board shuts down the propane, purges the gas and tries again. If there’s no flame after 3 tries, the furnace goes into lockout mode.

40
Q

What are the 2 models? RV refrigerators coming?

A

They come in either absorption or compression models.

41
Q

Absorption RV refrigerator models

A

Absorption models come in many sizes with either manual or automatic controls and two or 3 way operation

42
Q

What heating elements do 2 way fridges use?

A

Either propane or a 120 VoltAC heating element.

43
Q

What heating elements can be used for a 3 way fridge?

A

You can use propane, 120 VoltAC or 12 VoltDC as a heat source.

44
Q

Absorption fridge operation.

A

Absorption fridges use a cooling unit which is filled with a combination of ammonia, water, hydrogen, and sodium chromate. The refrigerant is heated to a vapor state and rises to the top of the cooling unit, where begins a series of changes from vapor to liquid and draws the heat out of the fridge. The cooling mixture flows from the top of the cooling unit to the bottom using gravity and follows the curve of the piping. Venting is extremely important, and the refrigerator must be kept level for operation.
( The cabinet base must be at 90° to the cabinet face.)

45
Q

Compressor fridge operation

A

Compressor fridges require a 12 VoltDC or 120 VoltAC power supply to run the compressor. Some RVs use a household style compressor fridge that requires additional brackets to hold the fridge in place and keep the doors closed. Compressor fridges designed for RVs must either use 12 VDC or a combination of 12 VDC and 120 VAC.

46
Q

RV water heaters come in, what two types of models?

A

They come in either conventional tank models or tankless, on demand systems.
