Focal area of color change that is not elevated or depressed in relation to its surroundings
Macule
Solid, raised lesion that is less than 5 mm in diameter
Papule
Solid, raised lesion that is greater than 5 mm in diameter
Nodule
Describing a tumor or growth whose base is the widest part of the lesion
Sessile
Describing a tumor or growth whose base is not the widest part of the lesion
Pedunculated
Describing a tumor or growth exhibiting numerous surface projections
Papillary
Describing a tumor or growth exhibiting a rough, warty surface
Verrucous
Superficial blister, 5 mm or less in diameter usually filled with clear fluid
Vesicle
Large blister greater than 5mm in diameter
Bulla
Blister filled with purulent exudate
Pustule
Lesion characterized by loss of the surface epithelium and frequently some of the underlying CT. It often appears depressed or excavated.
Ulcer
Superficial lesion, often arising secondary to rupture of a vesicle or bulla, that is characterized by partial or total loss of the surface epithelium
Erosion
Narrow, slitlike ulceration
Fissure
Lesion that is slightly elevated an if flat on its surface
Plaque
Nonelevated area of hemorrhage that is larger than a Petechia
Ecchymosis
