What is the blood supply of the appendix?
A
Appendicular artery via the ileocolic artery
Appendicular vein to the SMV

Why is appendicitis pain referred to the umbilicus?
A
Pain initially starts in the periumbilical region as visceral pain from the appendix is conveyed in the nerve fibres entering the spinal cord at T10 - T10 dermatome cover the umbilicus
Irritation of the parietal peritoneum by an inflamed appendix later on causes localisation of pain to the RIF
