Apparatus Positioning. Flashcards
Consideration for parking at fire scene
8 total
Dept SOP Rescue Water Supply Method of attack Exposures Wind direction Terrain Relocation potential.
Aerial vs engine: building height rule
If building is 5 stories or higher the truck parks closest to building
If lower than 5 stories park engine at curb and aerial extends over
Dual vs tandem pumping
Dual used to relay water from one engine to another supply more lines to fire. Intake to intake connection rigs close together.
Tandem used to add pressure to pump performing the operation. Discharge to intake connection. Rigs can be farther apart
Positioning for wildland operations attack and staging
Attack- at an anchor point
Staging- in safe zone
Both:
Facing exit with precautionary exposure line pulled
Wildland roadway limitations
Do not cross streams
Do not cross bridges with unknown weight limitation
Do not drive on railroad tracks
No driving in grass higher than bumper
Rescue apparatus parking
Park as close to scene as possible without blocking
Best area for scene lighting and SCBA refill
Command positioning
Outside immediate dangerzone
Easily scene. Ideally at a comer with good visibility.
Ems positioning
Unless known victims. Stage at FF rehab station.
Staging Level 1 - Level 2
Level 1: initial emergency response stage 1 block out
Level 2: IC initiates once onscene
Used for larger incidents but must be ready to respond in 3 minutes or less
Highway positioning
3 main objectives
Consider 150-200 ft away
Parked so operator is protected by tailboard
Wheels turned to 45 away from working area.
Haz mat approach
Up hill side and upwind
Never enter area without knowing substance.
Haz Mat hot warm cold zones
Hot: main contamination area
Warm: enter briefly with no hear, decon and hot zone assistance.
Cold: staging area and IC
Railroads
4 points
Treat as active
Never park on tracks
When possible park on same side as incident
Beware of high voltage lines powering tracks.
Parking at investigative scene
Park at easiest access to entrance engineer stays with apparatus to provide support as needed
