AP Elbow Flashcards
Name the 3 fat pads in the elbow. Where are they located?
Posterior(back of humerus), anterior(front of humerus), supinator(above radius)
Which image will these fat pads be demonstrated?
Lateral view
What could cause these fat pads to be displaced (name 2 causes)?
Fluid from injury in joint pushes them out, mispositioning
How should the humeral epicondyles be positioned in relation to the IR for a properly positioned AP projection?
Parallel to IR
How should the hand be positioned?
Supinated
What is the CR location?
Elbow joint
If the elbow joint is closed and there is foreshortening of the radius/ulna or Humerus, what error occurred?
Arm is flexed
How much of the proximal radius & ulna and distal Humerus be demonstrated?
3”
In a properly positioned AP, how should the radial head, neck, and tuberosity be demonstrated?
They should be slightly overlapping proximal ulna
When evaluating your image, you notice that the radial head, neck, and tuberosity are completely free of superimposition. What error occurred (if any)?
Rotated laterally
When evaluating your image, you notice that the radial head and neck are completely superimposed over the ulna. What error occurred (if any)?
Rotated medially
