AP 4 Flashcards
CNS is comprised of
brain, spinal cord
how many parts of cranial nerves
12
spinal nerves exit at spinal level via
intervertebral foramenae
PNS connects the body to
CNS
Afferent division of PNS picks up info from
skin, muscles, joints, viscera
efferent division is divided into
somatic and automatic nervous system
Most abundant, connect neuron to capillary, take up nutrients and deliver them to neuron, form “blood-brain” barrier, assists in spatial learning and memory
Astrocytes
Line central cavities of brain and spinal cord, form CSF, squamous flat to columnar and often ciliated
ependymal cells
forms myelin sheath
oligodendrocytes
Play protective role in CNS, have macrophage capability
microglial cells
