Principle 1: Beneficence
all forms of action intended to benefit other persons
examples: protecting and defending other’s rights, removing conditions that will cause harm
Principle 2: Nonmaleficence
refrain from actions that cause harm
not impose risks or harm
What is the difference between nonmaleficence and beneficence?
Beneficence requires taking action to incur benefit
Nonmaleficence requires avoiding actions that cause harm
Principle 3: Autonomy
respect right of person to self-determination
treat client according to their desires
protect confidential information

Principle 4: Justice
promote equity, inclusion, objectivity
demonstrate attitudes and action of respect, inclusion, and impartiality
respect laws and standards
Principle 5: Veracity
provide comprehensive, accurate, and objective information
truthfulness, candor, honesty
Principle 6: Fidelity
shall treat clients and others with respect, fairness, and integrity
