When would you want to be cautious when using anti-thyroid drugs?
- PRegnancy and breast-feeding
- Hepatic impairment

What is the mechanism of action of carbimazole?
Metabolised to methimazole, which acts by inhibiting thyroid peroxidase and thereby the production of thyroid hormones.
How does polythiouracil work?
Acts by inhibiting thyroid peroxidase and thereby the production of thyroid hormone. It has additional effect of blocking T4 conversion to T3 in the liver and other tissues

- GI disturbance
- Rash and itch
- Bone marrow suppression
- Agranulocytosis
- Myopathy
- Jaundice
