Antimicrobial Drugs - Cephalosporins etc Flashcards
There are four generations of Cephalosporins. What are the details of the first?
narrow spectrum, sensitive to beta-lactamase: Cefazolin
There are four generations of Cephalosporins. What are the details of the second?
broader gram negative activity: cefoxitin
There are four generations of Cephalosporins. What are the details of the third?
broad spectrum, resistant to most cephalosporinases: Ceftriaxone, cefotaxime
There are four generations of Cephalosporins. What are the details of the fourth?
cefapime
What is the first line drug in the Txof gonorrhea?
ceftriaxone, thrid generation cephalosporin
What drug is used in the Tx of meningitis in children bc of its effectiveness against hemophyllus influenzae?
ceftriaxone
What does Vancomycin treat?
drug of choice for the Tx of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus- MRSA
What is the main u/e symptom of Vancomycin?
flushing and shock result due to histamine release caused by rapid infusion. Dose related ototoxicity can occur in patients w renal failure.
What is the MOA of cell membrane active agent, Daptomycin?
induces rapid depolarization of bacterial cytoplasmic membrane and disrupts multiple aspects of membrane Fx and inhibits synthesis of DNA, RNA and protein.
What is Daptomycin indicated for?
complicated skin infections and bacteremia caused by s. aureus.
