Antigout - Key Drugs

A
  • *Allopurinol = anemia and skin (we use purell on skin for purinol)
  • Prevents uric acid production through inhibition of enzyme
  • Significant adverse effects: ANEMIA, FATAL SKIN CONDITIONS
    • Colchicine = grab a COAT in the COLd or you’ll get an INFLAMED joint
  • Reduces inflammatory response to deposits of urate crystals in joint tissue
  • Monitor renal, hepatic and cardiac function and bleeding
  • AEs: toxic to KIDNEYS and LIVER

Watch BUN and Creatinine and liver enzymes
Watch uric acid levels because we hope for decrease in serum level

Interactions: antibiotics and beta blockers
