Antigen Presenting Cells L5 Flashcards
What receptor binds to the APC and makes it active?
Toll Cell Receptor (TCR)
What is TCR?
Recognizes Pathogen Associated Molecular Patterns (PAMP)
After APC is activated, what happens next?
Cytokine production
The production of cytokines induces what?
IL-1 & TNF
What three things are considered APC?
- Dendritic Cells
- Macrophages/Monocytes
- B-lymphocytes
What types of cytokines are involved (5)?
- Chemotines
- IFN Alpha & Beta
- IL-6
- IL-12
- IL-10
What are chemotines?
Chemotactic cytokines
What are IFN Alpha & Beta?
Antiviral
What does IL-6 do?
Activates bone marrow causing an increase in WBC
What does IL-12 do?
Activates TH1 cells and NK cells
What does IL-10 do?
Inhibitory cytokines therefore decreases immune responses
What does APC do to the antigen?
Cuts it up to pieces and presents it to the T cell
What are the three functions if IL-1 and TNF?
- Increase stickyness of endothelial cells -> inflammation
- Activation of liver to release proteins (CRP)
- Effect hypothalamus –> Fever, depression, anorexia
Where is MHC located?
On chromosome #6
What is MHC equivalent to?
HLA
