Azoles

A

Fluconazole, itraconazole

Inhibit fungal sterol (ergosterol) synthesis

Used for local and less serious systemic mycoses (cryptococcal meningitis, blastomyces, coccidiodies, histoplasma)

Cause testosterone synthesis inhibition, liver dysfunction (P-450 inhibition)

A

Inhibit DNA and RNA biosynthesis

Used for systemic fungal infection in combination with amphotericin B

Cause bone marrow suppression
