scopolamine mech of action:
binding and blocking Ach receptors in vestibular nuclei
scopolamine indications:
motion sickness, reduce secretion before surgery, reduce nausea and vomiting
how long do scopolamine patches last?
3 days
Scopolamine adv effects:
can cause drowsiness, dry mouth; fall risk
Ondansertron classification:
serotonin blocker/5HT3 receptor
ondansetron mech of action:
blocks serotonin receptors in the GI tract, CTZ, and VC
ondansetron indications:
nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy, postoperative nausea and vomiting
ondansetron adv effects:
fast or irregular heartbeat, dizziness, feeling faint or lightheaded, chest pain, trouble breathing, blurred vision
