Glucocortiroids can be:

mech of action prednisone:
synthesis of proteins, modify enzyme activity, help control inflammatory and immune responses
prednisone indications:
adrenocortical deficiency, bacterial meningitis, cerebral edema, organ transplant
prednisone contraindications:
allergy, septicemia, to prevent CNS damage in TB, use w caution with GERD, PUD, diabetes, cardiac, renal, liver dysfunction
prednisone adv effects:
insomnia, mood swings, vertigo, IOP, HF, fragile skin, weight gain
prednisone interactions:
non-potassium sparing diuretics, NSAIDS, warfarin
nursing implications for adrenal drugs:
I&O, assess for PUD, pt use of OTCs, edema and electrolyte imbalances
Oral preparations should be given with what?
food or milk to minimize GI upset
