Anticonvulsants Flashcards
Tiagabine
Treats only fartial or focal seizures by acting on SV2A preventing reuptake of GABA and decreased voltage gated Ca channels.
Topirimate
Nonspecific MOA, acts to decrease glutamate and increase GABA by blocking voltage gated Na channels.
Levetiracetam
Treats only fartial or focal seizures by acting on SV2A preventing reuptake of GABA and decreased voltage gated Ca channels. Acts on vesicle binding proteins leading to decreased glutamate binding. Excreted in urine
Phenytoin
Nonspecific MOA, acts to decrease glutamate and increase GABA by blocking voltage gated Na channels.
Liver metabolism and induces Liver enzymes to break down other drugs. Saturates enzyme and broken down by 0 order kinetics.
Valproic Acid
Nonspecific MOA, acts to decrease glutamate and increase GABA by blocking voltage gated Na channels.
Ethosuximide
Blocks postsynaptic voltage gated calcium channels for noncunvulsive generalized seizures.
Carbamezepine
Nonspecific MOA, acts to decrease glutamate and increase GABA by blocking voltage gated Na channels. Liver metabolism and induces Liver enzymes to break down other drugs.
Phenobarbital
Nonspecific MOA, acts to decrease glutamate and increase GABA by blocking voltage gated Na channels.
Lorazepam
Binds GABA receptors causing hyperpolarization.
Gabapentin
Nonspecific MOA, acts to decrease glutamate and increase GABA by blocking voltage gated Na channels. Excreted in the urine.
