Q

aminopenicillin indications

A
G+ bact
enterococcus
anaerobes
-combos = better at G-, staph, nisseria meningitidis,
-unasyn = good for pseudomonas, n. gonorrhea
-augmentin XR = 1st line sinusitits
-ampicillin = for shigella

16
Q

antistaphulococcal indications

A
staph infect
strep
pneumococci
G+ only (not G-)
oft used for skin infect
17
Q

antistaphulococcal ADRs

A

N/V/D

c. diff
naficillin: phlebitis, agranulocytosis, nephritis
oxacillin: reversible liver probs

18
Q

MIC

A

minimum inhibitory concentration
amt needed to stop bact growth
need x5 MIC at site of infection for antibiotic to work
time-dependent or concentration dependent

19
Q

G+ and G- cell walls

A

G + have thick peptidoglycan layers. oft PCN-binding prot (PBP)= cross link
G- have an extra outer layer, but a thinner peptidoglycan. theyre harder to kill.

20
Q

bacteria’s defense against B-lactams

A

B-lactamase
alter PBP
alter porins
efflux–send it right back out
