Anti Inflammatory 2 Flashcards
DMARDs ?
Disease modifying anti rheumatoid drugs
What is methotrexate?
Folic acid antagonist, suppresses immune cells causing inflammation it inhibits action of t helper 1 cells
What do T helper 1 cells normally do?
Activate macrophages that release cytokines which are proinflammatorybanx activated enzymes which erode bone and cartlidge
What is sulfasalazine
Sulfa drug which scavanges free radicals
What is cyclosporin and its action
Inhibits transcription of proinflammatory cytokines
It binds to cyclophillin in cytosol and calcium binds to calcineurin. Dephospohrylationof transcription factor= NFkappa beta
This controls transcription of cytokines
Why do some patients of asthma not respond to bronchondilators such as salbitomol as well?
Polymorphism in the beta 2 receptor
Atopic means?
Allergy susceptible
Side effedts of chronic steroid use
Thinning of skin, muscle wastage, poor wound healing, increase abdominal fat
New therapies to treat asthma
Biologicals
Inhibitors of the immune cells and mast cell signalling using humanised antibodies
