ANTI-ICE PANEL Flashcards

1
Q

DESCRIBE THE WING NORMAL POSITION OF THE WING ANTI-ICE SYSTEM.

A

NORM – When selected the wing anti-icing valves respond to signals from the anti-icing temperature controller. The valves are modulated to maintain a constant wing leading edge temperature (107 +/- 8 degrees C).

Q

DESCRIBE THE WING STANDBY POSITION OF THE WING ANTI-ICE SYSTEM.

A

STBY – When selected the WING ANTI-ICE temperature controller is bypassed and thermal switches are used to cycle the anti-icing valves open or closed to maintain the leading edges at a lower temperature than in normal mode (49 degrees C).

Q

WHAT INDICATIONS WOULD YOU SEE ON THE N2 GAUGES WHEN THE WING ANTI-ICE IS ON?

A

Amber arcs appear on the N2 gauges from 0 to 77.9%. This is a function of switch selection and are to remind the pilot that N2 core speed should be kept at higher rpm when wing anti-ice is on to ensure an adequate flow of bleed air from the engine.

Q

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT LIGHTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE WING ANTI-ICE TEST?

A

OVHT – illuminates when there is an overheat condition in the wing leading edge.
DUCT FAIL – Illuminates when a bleed air leak is detected in the anti-ice duct.

Q

WHEN IS THE 14TH STAGE AIR FOR ANTI-ICE AUTOMATICALLY DIVERTED?

A

14th Stage bleed air pressure is insufficient to supply the anti-ice system and the thrust reversers simultaneously. When thrust reverse is selected, anti –ice is automatically inhibited.

Q

WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF THE DET TEST SWITCH-LIGHT?

A

Initiates a self test of the ice detectors. Also illuminates Amber when the formation of ice is detected on the ice probe and anti-ice equipment is not properly configured.
▪ A green ICE status message will annunciate on EICAS when ICE is annunciated by the ice detection system and the anti-ice is properly configured.

Q

WHAT ARE THE POSITIONS AND RESPECTIVE FUNCTIONS OF THE WINDSHIELD SWITCHES?

A

➢ OFF/RESET – Indicates heating system is off and resets any faults.
➢ LOW – Windshield and side windows are heated (De-fog, approximately 41C)
➢ HI – Windshield heated to high temperature (De-Ice, Approximately 56C), side windows remain low.

Q

WHAT ARE THE FUNCTION OF THE PROBE SWITCHES?

A

Operate their respective side air data sensor heaters.
▪ TAT probe and L/R Pitot probe base are never heated on the ground.
▪ Inflight, all probes are heated at full power regardless of switch position (WOW).
