Anterior and Medial Thigh Picture Cards Flashcards

anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS)

Pubic tubercle

Inguinal ligament

Lesser trochanter

Greater trochanter
Also name what this thing does.

Linea aspera: Insertion point of adductor muscles.

Femoral vein

Great saphenous vein
Name the muscle, compartment, innervation, and function.

Sartorius muscle. Anterior thigh compartment flexes the hip at the thigh. It also laterally rotates the leg when the leg is extended and medially rotates the thigh when the hip is flexed. Innervated by femoral nerve.
origin is at the ASIS and it inserts in the pez aseunerious
Name the muscles, compartment, innervation, and function.

- Iliacus
- Psoas major
Anterior thigh muscles flex the leg at the hip, femoral nerve.
Together the Iliacus and psoas major make up the iliopsoas muscle.
In Greek psoa means “muscle of the loins”
Name the muscle, compartment, innervation, and function.

pectinius muscle. Can be classified as anterior or medial compartment. Flexes leg at hip and also adducts leg at the hip. Femoral nerve innervation.
origin is in the superior pubic and insertion is in the femur
Which two muscles combine to form the iliopsoas at their shared point of insertion?
The psoas major and iliacus.
Name the muslce, compartment, innervation, and function.

Rectus femoris. Anterior thigh - one of the quadriceps muscles. Femoral nerve innervation. Extends the leg at the knee. This particular muscle also crosses the hip so it will flex the hip.
origin is in the ASIIS and the insertion is at he quad tendon
Name the muscle, compartment, innervation, and function.

Vastus medialis. Anterior thigh compartment, one of the quadriceps muscles. Extends the leg at the knee. Femoral nerve innervation.
origin is at the interchonteric line and insertion is the duad ligament
Name the muscle, compartment, innervation, and function.

Vastus lateralis. Anterior thigh compartment - one of the quadriceps muscles. Extends the leg at the knee. Femoral nerve.
origin is at the GT and insertion is the quad ligament
Name the muscle, compartment, innervation, and function.

Vastus intermedius. Anterior thigh - one of the quadriceps muscles. Extends the leg at the knee. Femoral nerve.
origin is at the upper femur shaftand insertion is the quad ligament

Femoral artery

Deep femoral artery
Name the muscle, compartment, innervation, function, origin, and insertion.

- Adductor longus
- Adductor brevis
- Adductor magnus - also extends thigh at hip. Superior and middle portions are supplied by the posterior division of the obturator. Inferior portion is supplied by the tibial division of the sciatic nerve.
All are adductors of the medial thigh compartment. All originate on the pelvis along the arch of pubis and insert on the linea aspera. Supplied by obturator nerve (except magnus - inferior portion is supplied by tibial div. of sciatic n.).
Name the five adductor muscles of the thigh. Which one is pointed out by the “?” mark? Where does this particular muscle insert?

Gracilis is the one in question. It inserts on the pes anserinus.
Other four are:
Adductor Longus
Adductor Brevis
Adductor Magnus
Obturator Externus

Lateral femoral cirumflex artery

Medial femoral circumflex artery

Inferior gluteal artery

Superior gluteal artery

Obturator artery

- Iliac fossa
- Iliac crest
- Anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS)
- Anterior inferior iliac spine (AIIS)
- Superior ramus of pubis
- Body of ischium
- Ramus of ischium
- Ramis of pubis
- Intertrochanteric line
