What is plantar fasciitis
CLINICAL condition- persistant pain assox with degeneration of plantar fascia due to microtears
COMMON, esp in elderly
usually caused in elderly, flat feet, sportsy and obese
presentation of plantar fasciitis
insidious HEEL pain
pain worse on first few steps, getting better with moderate activity. (worse with severe)
Exam tender on palpation of heel area, limited dorsiflexion range
Windlass test- extend 1st toe = reproduce pain
limping
Ix and Mx of plantar fasciitis
no ix - purely clinical dx
self care- relieve exercise, better footwear, insoles, looser weight
Gets better on its own in 1 y
Analgesia
if severe- consider steroid injection
if self care not working after few months - physio/podiatrist
