What is the Wallis line?
An invisible line that animals went through, and then never crossed back.

Through Indonesia
Why didn’t animals cross it?
When Australia broke away, it changed the currents and made Australia colder. Animals got used to this climate, and knew if they went farther up, it would be a warmer climate that they couldn’t survive in.
What was this current called?
Antarctic Circumpolar/A.C.C

Monotremes, marsupials, and placentals
What is a fun fact about monotremes?
There are 36 species of venomous funnel web spiders in east Australia alone.
What do monotremes do?
They lay eggs.

Platypus and echidna.

Australia.
What is the one marsupial in North America?
Opossum.
What is different about marsupials?
They are vulnerable and helpless at birth; they need to be nurses by their mother for a while.

Kangaroo, thylacine, bandicoot, numbat, Tasmanian devil, wombat, quoll, dunnart.
What’s different about placental?
They are hardier

Cow, human, dog, cat, horse, bear, weasel, sheep, pig.
