Animal,Plant and bacterial cells Flashcards
what are eukaryotic cells?
a multicellular organism meaning it is an organism composed of many cells.
e.g animal, plant cells
what are prokaryotic cells?
a unicellular organism meaning it is an organism composed of one cell that carries out all the functions needed by the organism
e.g bacteria, amoeba
- do not contain mitochondria, nucleus and chloroplasts
What is in an Animal cell?
- nucleus
- cytoplasm
- cell membrane
- mitochondria
- ribosomes
What is in a plant cell?
- Nucleus
- cytoplasm
- cell membrane
- mitochondria
- cell wall
- vacoule
- chloroplasts
- ribosomes
What is the function of the nucleus?
-contains the genetic information to control the activities of the cell
What is the function of the cytoplasm?
- liquid mixture where the chemical reaction of the cell takes place
what is the function of the cell membrane?
- controls what moves in and out of the cells
What is the function of the mitochondria?
- structure within the cytoplasm that released energy for the cells via aerobic respiration
What is the function of the Cell wall?
- structure in the cell that contains cellulose
- provides strength for the cell
What is the function of the vacuole?
the vacuole is a large sac filled with a liquid called cell sap.
important for growth and has cel sap for storage
What is the function of the chloroplasts?
Chloroplasts contain a green substance called chlorophyll.
This absorbs the light energy needed to make photosynthesis happen.
What is the function of Ribosomes?
small organelle that is responsible for making protein for the cell
What are Plasmids?
when prokaryotic cells have more than one ring of DNA
these plasmids can replicate and move around cells so that genetic information can be shared.
