Aerobic respiration Flashcards
1
Q
What is the word equation for aerobic respiration
A
Glucose + oxygen = carbon dioxide + water (+energy)
2
Q
Where does Aerobic Respiration take place
A
Occurs in the mitochondria
3
Q
How does Glucose get into cells
A
- when your food is broken down it releases glucose molecules which get absorbed by the wall of the small intestines into the bloodstream
- then dissolves into your plasma
4
Q
How does oxygen get into cells
A
- Oxygen diffuses into your bloodstream and joins the haemoglobin
and get carried around your body in the blood vessels
5
Q
How does carbon dioxide leave the body
A
Carbon dioxide diffuses out of the cells and into the plasma then is transported to the lunges where it is exhaled
6
Q
Name the component of blood that carries oxygen around the body
A
Haemoglobin
7
Q
Name the component of blood that transports carbon dioxide
A
Plasma
