Peter (Rabbit)
Daily:
fresh water in bowl
1/4 cup pelleted food
change litter box(scoop out soiled litter and replace with new bedding)
add fresh hay
give clean blankets as needed
Peter (Rabbit) Digestion
If a rabbit is not eating/not pooping, this is an EMERGENCY. Alert staff of any changes in behavior, appetite, or stool.
Sheldon and Terra (Eastern Box Turtles)
Daily:
change water
use sprayer to mist mulch/substrate with water(for a couple minutes!!!)
give fresh greens dish and worms on schedule
Turn on UV light in the morning, turn OFF UV LIGHT AT NIGHT
Toad
moves out to visitor center during the day
moisten dirt daily, give freshwater, feed meals worms twice weekly
Lucy (Chicken)
Daily:
change water
top off food
change out soiled newspapers and replace with new paper
fruit cup at end of day
Chloe (Chicken)
lives in aviary!
fresh bowl of crumble and fruit cup in mornings when opening aviary
(hot house info on checklist for winter)
Winne (screech owl)
Daily:

clean out basket
BE SURE the doors of the visitor center to the outside are CLOSED/LOCKED before you open cage doors
Cleaning Procedures of Education Birds in the Clinic and Hallway
need papers and water changed daily
enclosures may have a weekly or as-needed hose and scrub schedule

Rehabilitation Birds Flight Cage Cleaning Procedures
raked at least once weekly
waters changed at least twice weekly (weather dependent)
General Meat Rules/Procedres
pulled in the afternoon for the next day
all whole animals (rats,mice, squirrels, muskrats, rabbits, quail, fish) should be gutted (removal of stomach and intestines); be careful not to rupture he gut tract and trim off excess fat
if any food is questionable to you or looks/smells bad, DO NOT use it
use any meat thawed within 2 days; no food is kept longer than 2 days after being thawed
Pheasant meat
only the pheasant legs should be used; they need to be checked for lead pellets thoroughly
Rabbit meat
if they come from hunters, check for lead pellets thoroughly
Deer meat
bone-in deer can be fed to eagles and vultures; deer meet can be fed to any of the hawks, falcons, eagles, or vultures
Rodent meat
donated rodents often have metal tags in the ear or neck or microchips under the skin, check for these and remove them; some mice or rats might have tattoos on then tails or paws, cut these parts off
Songbird Diet
we chop a variety of fresh fruit for songbirds daily
Rabbit diet

Bowl Cleaning Procedure
all bowls should be scrubbed/washed after feeding, and then soaked in diluted HDQ solution; all dished should then be rinsed when taken out of the HDQ solution and placed in a rack to dry
Bucket cleaning procedure
any bins or buckets that food is thawed or carried in should be washed and scrubbed after every use; be sure to wash the bottoms!

Aviary Care AM
-take morning feeding (see checklist); pull all fruit bowls and dished from the day prior
- fresh crumble and fruit cup to Chloe, the chicken
- dump seed on aviary floor (IF RAINING, dump wet seed into a bucket to avoid mold on the aviary floor of wet seed); if there is rain in forecast, put out minimal seed and mealworms
Aviary Care PM
take evening feeding (see checklist) and Ned’s food; place in designated areas; collect meal worm cups from visitors
Cleaning of Aviary
- railings and rocks scrubbed once weekly
- mulch raked once weekly
- walkways swept/scrubbed as needed
- chloe’s hot house changed out weekly
- remove excess mulch and twigs from stream daily
Stream filter procedures
- cleaned out at least once a month
- pond/basin at bottom of stream cleaned( scoop mud, leaves, mulch, etc. into bucket to empty outside aviary)
- unplug pump, take lid off and empty mesh bag into bucket
- hose/ rinse everything off
-pull out filter brushed and spray down to remove mud - replace everything and place pump back in
Stream filter function procedures
- will make a sucking noise when not getting enough water
- to fix, turn on the hose connected to the stream at the hydrant between the Aviary and Eagle mew until stream level is appropriate
- alert staff immediately/take care of immediately to avoid burning up the pump!!
