General Meat Rules/Procedres

A

pulled in the afternoon for the next day

all whole animals (rats,mice, squirrels, muskrats, rabbits, quail, fish) should be gutted (removal of stomach and intestines); be careful not to rupture he gut tract and trim off excess fat

if any food is questionable to you or looks/smells bad, DO NOT use it

use any meat thawed within 2 days; no food is kept longer than 2 days after being thawed

Bowl Cleaning Procedure

A

all bowls should be scrubbed/washed after feeding, and then soaked in diluted HDQ solution; all dished should then be rinsed when taken out of the HDQ solution and placed in a rack to dry

Aviary Care AM

A

-take morning feeding (see checklist); pull all fruit bowls and dished from the day prior

  • fresh crumble and fruit cup to Chloe, the chicken
  • dump seed on aviary floor (IF RAINING, dump wet seed into a bucket to avoid mold on the aviary floor of wet seed); if there is rain in forecast, put out minimal seed and mealworms

  • chloe’s hot house changed out weekly
  • remove excess mulch and twigs from stream daily

Stream filter procedures

A
  • cleaned out at least once a month
  • pond/basin at bottom of stream cleaned( scoop mud, leaves, mulch, etc. into bucket to empty outside aviary)
  • unplug pump, take lid off and empty mesh bag into bucket
  • hose/ rinse everything off
    -pull out filter brushed and spray down to remove mud
  • replace everything and place pump back in

Stream filter function procedures

A
  • will make a sucking noise when not getting enough water
  • to fix, turn on the hose connected to the stream at the hydrant between the Aviary and Eagle mew until stream level is appropriate
  • alert staff immediately/take care of immediately to avoid burning up the pump!!
