What is the Ohio Bird Sanctuary all about?
THe Ohio bird sanctuary is a haven for native birds, a nature preserve, and a living museum. Our team is dedicated to caring for a rehabilitating Ohio’s native birds, protecting natural habitats, and creating opportunities for people to engage with nature.
How is the mission of the Ohio Bird Sanctuary achieved?
- actively aiding sick and injured birds back to health
- educating the public by providing family-friendly programming and school-based programs
- managing a 90 acre preserve
Ohio Bird Sanctuary Business Hours
Tuesday-Saturday: 10am-4pm
Sunday: 12pm-4pm
Monday and Holidays: closed
This is our entire facility, including parking, picnic areas, and hiking trails.
Off-site rescues
The Ohio Bird Sanctuary does NOT offer off-site rescues for animals. Interns are never permitted to rescue animals or birds off-site as a representative of the Ohio Bird Sanctuary.

answer to the best of your abilities, or find someone who can help; if you do not know an answer to a question, kindly explain your position and find a staff member to better assist. NEVER make up an answer.
What are visitor fees?
$3 per child, 5$ per adult
Members receive free admission
A civilian has a bird repeatedly hitting their window. What do you do?
This is usually a male trying to chase an intruder from its nesting territory, it doesn’t identify its own reflection. Try reducing the glare by making it lighter inside the car then outside, or temporarily cover the window.
Do we have hiking trails?
Yes! approximately 3 miles. It winds through a variety of habitat. Trails maps are available in the lobby and located on our website.
How to answer the phone
- OBS, Hannah Tarr speaking
- answer general questions that can be answered confidently
- politely make them aware and then place them on hold for inquires you cannot answer; find assistance (they have a bird/bird related question, inquiry about education program)
- in inquiry involves bird they had brought in with a case number, take note on the call log with the case# and their # to contacted; calls are completed with 24-48 hours
How to Greet Visitors while working the front desk
- Welcome them. Ask if this is their first visit. If so, tell them about the sanctuary.
- Ask where they are visiting from, record on tally sheet on the desk
- take admission fee
- point out kid’s activity room, enclosure interpretive signs, double-door system protocol (one door closed at all times)
- sell worm cups if wanted
- inform of upcoming programs
