Animal and plant cells Flashcards
What does the nucleus do?
The nucleus controls the activity of the cell and it contains DNA which is genetic information
what does out cytoplasm do?
it is a jelly like substance where all the organals float in. It is where all the chemical reactions take place
what does the mitochondria do?
Aerobic respiration happens in the mitochondria which releases energy for the cell.
what is the ribosome?
the ribosome makes protiens for the cell via protien synthesis
what does the cell membrane do?
it controlls what goes in and out of the cell
what does the chloroplast do?
its where photosynthesis takes place
what does the chloroplast contain?
the chloroplast contains the chlorophyll which absorbs light energy for photosynthesis to take place
what is aerobic respiration?
uses oxygen from the air to release the energy from glucose. it happens in the mitochondria.
what is anerobic respiration?
the release of glucose without oxygen. It does not happen in the mitochondria, it produces lactic acid.
What is the difference between aerobic and anerobic respiration?
Oxygen is used in aerobic respiration but not anerobic
why can a solid not be compresed?
it cannot be compressed because there is no space for the particles to go because they are closed in regular and fixed positions
what happens to a solid when it melts?
it turns into a liquid since the particles. gain more kinetic energy
what types of particles are very close to eachother?
solid particles
what types of particles are randomly aranged?
liquid particles
how would you describe gas particles
they move in different directions quickly and are really far away from eachother
